Principal's Message - Term 1, Week 7

Dear School Community,

On Tuesday night I attended the week 7 P&C meeting. This was the P&C AGM. I am pleased to announce that Kirrily Martin will once again be leading the Minnamurra Public School P&C in her role as the president. Kerry Davids will again be the secretary for 2018 and we have a new treasurer, Dita Sharples. I would like to acknowledge and thank the former treasurer Cath Grose-Jones for her hard work and dedication to the MPS P&C.

Our new school principal, Mrs Linda Wilbraham, also attended the P&C meeting. It was wonderful to have Mrs Wilbraham attend this meeting and continue the strong relationship between the school and the parents of Minnamurra Public School.

The World's Greatest Shave

This was held at Minnamurra Public School on Monday 12 March. We had 13 students and a teacher, Mrs Laverty, take part in the shave. It was extremely successful and our school community raised close to $6000!! There was a really supportive spirit evident from the rest of the school who cheered on the participants.

A special thank you to our volunteer hairdressers, it was a great event all round.

Student Social Reports

On Tuesday 3 April student social reports will be sent home. These reports indicate how students have settled into the school year, how motivated, resilient and engaged they have been in their learning. It also indicates to parents how students are engaging and playing with each other in the playground. These reports are intended to give a starting point to the discussions parents and teachers will be having a week later at the parent teacher interviews. Those interviews will be held on Tuesday 10 April from 3:00 - 6:30 PM.

Busy End to the Term

As always, it is a busy time at Minnamurra Public School. Towards the end of the term we have the K-2 Easter Extravaganza, school cross country, parent teacher interviews and ANZAC Day Service. The date and time of these events will be updated in the newsletter and there is also now an online calendar on the school website so parents are aware of the events happening in the school.

Damaged Hats

Over the course of the beginning of the school year teachers and parents have noticed that student caps are being broken and damaged. Some students are drawing on their hats as well. I would like to remind all students that the school hat is part of the school uniform and must be looked after, just like any other part of the uniform. Students wearing damaged hats, or hats that have been drawn on will not be able to play on the playground, until they are wearing a school hat which has not been intentionally damaged.

Changes to Facebook

There will be some minor changes to the Minnamurra Teachers' Facebook page. We will be taking a more active role in the Facebook page, tightening up security and using Facebook to advertise the amazing things we do at MPS. The main change is there will no longer be a PS Connect group. This will save confusion about where to go for information about what happens at our school. These changes will be advertised in the school newsletter over the next few weeks.

Student Absences

Thank you to parents for your diligence in promptly submitting notes for your child's absences. The ladies in the office really appreciate this as it alleviates letters requesting an explanation being sent home.
